Hilton, James Adrian
Apr 17, 2018April 12, 2018. Adrian was born on January 22, 1944 to James S. (Sonny) Hilton and Verna McMillian Hilton. He married the love of his life, Barbara Buck Hilton on March 8, 1963. On April 3, 1964 and July 6, 1968 they welcomed their two loving daughters, Melissa Hilton Cressell and Monica Hilton Patton to the world. Next to his family, his passion was being involved in his community. He served the Town of Rural Retreat by dedicating much of his time to the Rural Retreat Volunteer Fire Department as Fire Chief for many years. He continued the family milk hauling business that was started by his father, Sonny and mother, Verna until his retirement in 2010. He also operated a Wheel Horse and Stihl Chainsaw dealership and for a short time he and Barbara owned the Crossroads Country Store. In 1988, Adrian and Barbara purchased a local hardware store and named it Harpo's Hardware. Adrian was an inspiration to many during the trials he faced after losing his beloved Barbara. His positive attitude, sense of humor, and love for his friends and family were a blessing to those that knew him. He is preceded in death by his parents, Sonny and Verna Hilton; grandparents, James Ward Hilton and Ollie Grubb Hilton and Jerd McMillan and Jesse Jones McMillan; brother in law, Robert Herzberg; and wife, Barbara Hilton. He is survived by two very special daughters, Melissa Cressell and Danny of Rural Retreat, Va. and Monica Patton and Foy of Rural Retreat, Va.; Grandchildren, Brandi Cressell and John, Daniel Cressell and Sarah, Garrett Cressell, Dana Cressell and Eric, Allison Patton, and Savannah Patton and Andre; great grandchildren, Johnathan, Jackson, Colton, Molly, Clara, and Rhett; sisters, Joan Herzberg of White Plains, Md., Linda Hilton and Randolph of Rural Retreat, Va.; nieces, Robin Phillips and Laura Phillips; nephews, Mitch Herzberg, Darren Hilton and Leslie, and Clint Phillips.
